A quick one on the World Cup TV audiences, as we love figures at the-marketing-labs...don't you all?

According to UK TV ratings, England's defeat by Uruguay on Thursday night on ITV was watched by a peak of 20.29 million (70.7%), the UK's biggest TV audience since the 2012 Olympics. The match, excluding half time, averaged 18.51m/67.8% from 8pm. The full coverage from 7pm averaged 13.29m/55.5%.

Meanwhile, in France yesterday evening, the match France v Switzerland on TF1 was watched by 16.7m viewers on average (62%), with a peak at 19m. To which TF1 adds nearly 900,000 online viewers.

My conclusion so far? England is more a nation of football fans than France, but the French are narrowing the gap. Yet if their team makes further progress during the Copa do Brasil, it's likely the French will tune in in greater numbers for the upcoming matches. Allez, encore un petit effort les Bleus !
